Plano Balloon Festival

#31 - Go BEARS!

This has been a fun week!

Thursday evening was arts/music night at the elementary school.  Nick had a really fun time and Matt bounced around from one activity to the next.  They had drums, an instrument petting zoo, and art projects for activities.

Friday night we went to the world famous Plano Balloon Festival.  We arrived just as the evening balloon take off was happening.  Then we walked around the various booths, collected lots of stickers, and spun the wheel to win some prizes.  After dark they had a "balloon glow" where you could walk around the balloon launch area and watch them light up.  It was pretty awesome.  Finally, we waited in line for the kids to go on the bungee jump trampoline thing.

Saturday we went to Nicholas' football game which they won 21-0.  Nick liked getting to play running back for part of the game.

Things that broke this week:  air conditioning on the Lexus; the liftgate on the Suburban, and the air blower on the spa.

Matt's quote for the week comes from the bungee jump trampoline at the festival when he said "I'm petrified."  The guy who worked there commented that he had never heard a 5 year old use the word "petrified" before.  That's our Matt.

Turtle Bay August 2008

Goodbye Megan!

Welcome to the Baker Family blog -- designed to keep us in touch and share the exciting adventures of our family.  Maybe we'll even share an occasional photo.

Lori and I spent the past few days in Idaho taking Megan to college.  Megan packed everything in a couple big boxes and some suitcases.  We bought a bunch of additional stuff once we got to Idaho.  Doug particularly enjoyed getting acquainted with the Dollar Tree store.  No questions about how much an item is -- only $1.  The best deal was getting a USB cable for (you guessed it) $1.  Walmart had the same thing for $12.

Megan has a nice apartment with her own private bedroom, which she has appropriately decorated with a Texas flag on the wall.  Her roommates all seem real nice.  This will be a great experience for Megan, but we will miss not having her at home with us.  We surprised Megan with a BMW Z3 just before we left town.  I think she keeps it on the shelf in her room since it's only 3 inches long.

And now for Matt's quote of the week:  Today at stake conference, the stake president told all the primary children to listen carefully during his talk to find out what furlong means.  Halfway through the talk, Matt leaned over to me and asked,  "Dad, what's a fur ball?"
